KUANTAN: Police today detained another suspect believed to be involved in a syndicate offering and selling the non-existent Pahang state awards and medals via Facebook.
State Commercial Crimes Investigation Department (CCID) chief Supt Mohd Wazir Mohd Yusof said the fourth suspect, a 49-year-old man, was picked up by a team from the Pahang CCID at his house in Batu Caves, Selangor at 6.45 pm.
"The suspect is believed to have been illegally involved in posting the selling of the state awards and medals on Facebook," he said when contacted here today.
Mohd Wazir said the entry was posted on a Facebook account under the name of Nazzaitulhaida Mohd Ali calling those interested in obtaining Pahang 'Datuk' and 'Datuk Seri' titles to contact and meet in Kuantan yesterday.
Police also seized a Huawei mobile phone and a SIM card to facilitate investigation, he said.
Mohd Wazir said the case was being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 3(1) of the Pahang Emblems, Titles or Awards (Prevention of Improper Use) Enactment 2017.
Prior to this, police detained three people including a 60-year-old woman with the title of 'Datin' in three raids in Kuala Lumpur earlier this month and Melaka last Thursday, for their alleged involvement in the activity.
They had allegedly advertised the sale of 'Datuk' and 'Datuk Seri' titles ranging from RM180,000 to RM400,000 on social media. — Bernama
