PUTRAJAYA: The actions taken by certain quarters to badmouth Malaysia abroad may have a devastating impact on the work prospects of young people in the country, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan.
He said all government policies and infrastructure projects were aimed at giving confidence to foreign investors to invest in Malaysia which would eventually create jobs for young people.
However, he said the actions of those involved in smearing the country for alleged political mileage would only affect the confidence of foreign investors and make the government's ongoing efforts to develop the nation's economy for the future of the younger generation an exercise in futility.
"Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak flies all over the globe not just to foster closer ties between Malaysia and other countries, but deep down in his heart he thinks when there is good relations, foreign investors know Malaysia and create jobs for young people.
"Whatever he does, he's thinking of you, your job, your future," he said at the 2018 Central Zone level 1Malaysia Training Scheme Open Interview Programme at Serdang Malaysia Agricultural Expo Park (Maeps), here today.
The programme, which was officiated by the Prime Minister, was also attended by Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem and Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
The two-day programme offered over 15,000 jobs and training opportunities to job seekers involving over 150 employers with a target of 30,000 visitors.
Abdul Rahman said, since 2010, 2.2 million new jobs were created in the country, with almost 700,000 of them being highly skilled jobs.
"The government is making big projects like Mass Rapid Transit to be a catalyst for economic growth that employs young people," he added.
He said all those initiatives started with a commitment to give young people the opportunity to get jobs, thus ensuring their future. — Bernama
