BAGAN SERAI: Two policemen escaped unhurt when their patrol car skidded, after being hit by a car which was being pursued, at the Simpang Tiga, Parit Buntar traffic light junction, early this morning.
Kerian district police chief Supt Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob said in the 4.15am incident, the two police corporals received a public tip-off that some people in a Proton Wira car were stealing Telekom Malaysia (TM) cables at Jalan Siakap, here.
He said the duo then headed for the location but on reaching the site, the patrol car was almost hit by the suspects' car which was fleeing towards Bagan Serai City Centre.
"As they approached the Simpang Tiga, Parit Buntar traffic lights, the suspects' car rammed into the patrol car causing it to veer to left and crash into the road barrier," he told the media at the Kerian District Police Headquarters (IPD) today.
Omar Bakhtiar said as a result of the crash, the patrol car was badly wrecked in the rear section, adding that the policemen were not injured.
"The suspects' Proton Wira is dark green in colour but the registration number could not be seen. The car was heading towards Jalan Taiping, Parit Buntar," he added.
He said the incident was the second cable theft to occur at Jalan Siakap, here and TM had been notified.
He urged anyone with information on the incident to report to the Kerian IPD to facilitate investigations. — Bernama
