Ex-staff claims trial to 311 charges under Computer Crimes Act

KLANG: A former employee of a car manufacturing company was charged in the sessions court here with 311 counts of unauthorised access to the company's computer inventory system, involving a loss of more than RM2 million.
Mohamad Al-Faruq Mustapah, 32, claimed trial after the charges were read out before three separate judges, Tasnim Abu Bakar, Emilia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid and Darmafikri Abu Adam.
The father of three, who was the spare parts department assistant, was accused of accessing the company's 'VSS Service Appointment' system to make vehicle service appointments with the intention of causing loss to the company.
He was accused of using his manager's executive ID to make fake appointments involving purchases of engine oil and vehicle spare parts.
About 400 transactions were cancelled illegally even though they were recorded in the company's account and the items were not returned resulting in an estimated loss of RM2.64 million.
Mohamad Al-Faruq was accused of committing the offences under Section 4(1)(a) of the Computer Crimes Act 1997 at the company's service centre at Kawasan Perindustrian Bukit Raja Selatan here between Aug 15, 2013 and Dec 2016.
The three judges set total bail at RM130,000 in three sureties and ordered him to report to the nearest police station once a month.
Mention has been set on April 5.
Deputy public prosecutors Siti Fatimah Yahya, Mahmoodah Abdul Latiff and S. Nithtia prosecuted while the accused was represented by counsel Mohd Shukri Ahmad Mansor. — Bernama
