SERDANG: Police have arrested eight Filipinos, including three women, for using pepper spray to rob RM7,000 in cash from a man at a supermarket in Bandar Baru Puchong here on Sunday.
Serdang district police chief ACP Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias today said the victim in his 40's had earlier made a RM7,000 withdrawal at a bank around 12pm.
"Half an hour later when the victim was at the supermarket, one of the suspects from the group approached the victim and pretended to faint while another suspect tried to spray the victim.
"However, the suspect failed to hurt the victim who retaliated. The victim then gave chase and managed to apprehend one of the suspects," he told reporters during a press conference at the Serdang district police headquarters here.
The suspect was handed over to the police for interrogation.
Megat Mohamad Aminudin said police were led to seven other suspects including three women aged between 25 and 50 in the next 24 hours at several bus stations in the city centre.
The suspects were attempting to board buses to escape to Thailand.
With the group's arrest, police have managed to solve at least five similar cases.
The suspects are expected to be remanded tomorrow.
The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
