KUALA PERLIS: Four fishing boats were razed in a fire at Kampung Tanah Baru beach here early this morning.
Perlis Fire and Rescue Operation Division assistant director Muhamad Firdaus Yusop said no casualties were reported in the fire, which was believed to have started at 1.30 am.
"The department, equipped with 65 personnel, received a distress call at 1.44 am and arrived at the scene eight minutes later.
"We applied the defensive approach to douse the fire within 30 minutes using water resources from the fire engine tanker and river," he said when met at the scene here today.
He said 70% of the four boats were destroyed in the fire while the cause and losses incurred were being ascertained. — Bernama
