KAJANG: Protasco Bhd’s education arm Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur (IUKL) is collaborating with the Department of Irrigation & Drainage (DID) to explore innovative water management technologies, including managing urban stormwater, flood mitigation and disaster response.
IUKL has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with DID on academic and research collaborations to enhance and extend research capabilities into innovative water management technologies.
“Water resource management is an area that Both DID and IUKL have strong expertise in. DID and IUKL’s I-Geo Research Center are references for water resource engineering in Malaysia, which is a technically intensive and demanding field,” said IUKL vice chancellor Prof Dr Roslan Zainal Abidin.
“The potential research outcome of this important collaboration can provide sustainable solutions to address Malaysia’s extreme flooding and storm conditions,” he said in a statement.
Water management technology, from river management to hydroinformatics, involves hydrology, hydraulic processes, water resource management, geomorphology, erosion and sediment control, among other fields.
IUKL can contribute through its proprietary innovations on soil and water modelling systems, river engineering, flood mitigation management, and geomorphology, Roslan added.
“This MOU commits us to work together particularly in the areas of Urban Stormwater Management Manual for Malaysia, which is the best management practices that suits the Malaysian environment (among other areas),” said DID director general Datuk Dr Md Nasir Md Noh.
The MOU was signed by Md Nasir and Roslan, witnessed by Protasco executive vice chairman and group managing director Datuk Seri Chong Ket Pen.
