JOHOR BARU: State police have denied that Johor is a hot spot for illegal drug-related activities.
SAC Baharom Othman, Deputy Director of Bukit Aman's Narcotics (Technical Intelligence Analysis) however said that along with gangsterism, drug-related activities exist in various cities.
He was speaking to the media following a courtesy call to Johor police chief Comm. Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd at the Johor state police contingent here on Tuesday.
He said the Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting), Bukit Aman and State Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID), and other agencies such as the National Anti-drugs Agency (AADK) should work hand-in-hand to tackle the problem of drug-pushers and drug addicts, the lowest rung of those involved in drug-related crimes.
He also congratulated Johor police for crippling seven drug cases with the arrest of 12 suspects in the first two months of 2018.
Baharom said Johor police also arrested 94 suspects for drug-related offences last year, adding that police would continue to work hard to cripple drug syndicates.
He added that about 142 drug addicts were rounded up in Ops Sarang in Kampung Melayu Pandan and Kampung Ubi on Tuesday.
Baharom said 105 of them tested positive for drug use in their urine test.
He said the majority of the drug addicts were repeat offenders of heroines and syabu, aged 20 to 60-years-old, including two women.
The operation was conducted between 4am right up to afternoon today.
