No room for profanity in public

THE Business Ethics Institute of Malaysia (BEIM) registers its strongest protest against individuals representing political parties or groups and organisations who use profane language in the course of championing their interests.
While BEIM is working relentlessly in promoting, nurturing and building a strong business community of Malaysians who live up to our Code of Conduct of healthy, exemplary business ethics, it is most demeaning and frustrating to hear all too often ministers, of all persons, spewing unacceptable foul language and insults in public.
The slamming by the tourism and culture minister of a senior citizen and successful businessman, Robert Kuok, with the unacceptable terms of reference must be condemned by the entire business community and including the leadership of the nation.
Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz, who is also a Umno supreme council member, is not only demeaning the leadership of Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak but does gross injustice to the very political party he champions.
BEIM reiterates that foul, uncouth language is just as bad as unethical business conduct. It not only further hardens public perception, but stains the very fabric of Malaysian values.
We call upon Najib to make a public stand on his entourage of ministers who keep throwing public decency out of their windows of ethical conduct. Such public behaviour must be condemned and cannot be accepted or justified by any measure.
