SONY Mobile Communications today announced two new smartphones to headline its flagship range, the Xperia XZ2, and the Xperia XZ2 Compact. Both models are touted to provide considerable advancements in camera, display, and audio technology as well as a beautiful new design.
"If entertainment is your priority, then our new Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are your smartphones," said Hideyuki Furumi, Executive Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing, Sony Mobile Communications.
The flagship Xperia XZ2 has an extended 5.7in HDR Full HD+ 2:1 display. Plus not only can you watch existing HDR content, but it also uses using Sony's BRAVIA TV technology, X-reality for mobile, to up-convert content to near High Dynamic Range (HDR) so even streaming videos get better quality playback.
The visual experience is coupled with Sony's brand new Dynamic Vibration System which analyses audio data and lets you feel the action in your hands. It is also fitted with powerful front-facing stereo speakers, featuring S-Force Front Surround, which is the loudest Xperia speakers ever.
The audio is further enhanced using Sony's audio expertise, Hi-Resolution Audio together with DSEE HX technology for upscaling. Sony guarantees quality when the phone is connected to compatible wireless speakers or headphones thanks to the enhanced Bluetooth technology LDAC which offers near High-Resolution Audio.
For the camera, Sony equipped their flagship phone with the world's first 4K HDR Movie recording capable camera it calls the Motion Eye camera. With it, users can capture reality with contrast, detail, and true to life colour that is better than any other mobile phone camera, and share or upload it to a compatible HDR TV or YouTube.
Super slow motion video recording is also upgraded with 960fps in Full HD. Motion Eye camera also brings all the still photography features from Xperia with its intelligent control features such as Predictive Capture with motion and smile detection, Autofocus burst, and Predictive Autofocus, plus Quick Launch and Capture.
With the 3D Creator application on the Xperia XZ2, create 3D scans of objects or friend's faces in less than a minute using the primary camera. This feature could also be used on the front camera bringing to life selfies in 3D. These 3D photos can be posted directly to Facebook timeline within 3D Creator.
The Xperia XZ2 and its Compact counterpart are also beautiful to behold. Its fluid 3D glass surface creates a seamless form that is meant to feel comfortable in your hand effortlessly. The design is contrasted by its tough exterior, built with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and metal frame to add durability and premium feel.
The Xperia XZ2 is available in four different finishes Liquid Silver, Liquid Black, Deep Green and Ash Pink. Certified IP65/IP68, XZ2 is designed to withstand splashes and spills.
The brains of the Xperia XZ2 and the XZ2 Compact is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform with X20 LTE which provides faster data transfer speeds. This is paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable memory.
Powering it all is a 3180 mAh battery on the XZ2 and 2870 mAh on the XZ2 compact.
The most significant difference between the XZ2 and the XZ2 Compact is that the latter is fitted with a 5in HDR Full HD+ extended display. It is also available in White Silver, Black, Moss Green and Coral Pink.
Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are available globally from March 2018, and both will ship with Android 8.0 Oreo.
