GEORGE TOWN: The federal government has officially unveiled the federal road project from Teluk Kumbar to the Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas after work began some eight years ago.
The 3km stretch will alleviate traffic congestion for residents heading to Balik Pulau and the airport, and it is a testament to the promise that the Barisan Nasional-led federal government has never abandoned Penang, said Penang Umno liaison committee chairperson Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Osman.
The federal road is code named as FT006 and will help smoothen traffic flow from the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge through Balik Pulau and Bayan Lepas, Zainal Abidin explained.
"The upgrading of FT006 is also aimed at promoting the growth of the local economy in the region," he commented.
He added that the federal government does indeed care about Penangites and they will fulfill their promises to help Penang alleviate the traffic congestion.
The upgrading of FT006 is a Public Works Department (JKR) project that features a 3km road construction with a contract value of RM207.7 million.
All the construction work of the elevated mainline bridge was fully completed on Dec 23 last year.
