No abuse of farmer's market permits: Tajuddin

PASIR SALAK: The Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry has given its assurance that none of the participants at its farmers' markets have leased out their business permits to foreigners.
Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said this was because the Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama) officials conducted constant checks at the farmers' markets throughout the country to ensure that traders complied with the procedures and regulations.
He said currently, there are 1,000 farmers' markets operating throughout the country.
"We have Fama officers at the site. We will revoke the business permits of farmer's market traders found to have abused the permits by leasing or renting out their business sites to foreigners," he said.
Tajuddin, who is also Pasir Salak Member of Parliament, said this to reporters after attending the Langkap, Chui Chak, Rukun Tetangga Chinese New Year dinner, here yesterday.
He was asked to comment on a statement by Immigration Department of Malaysia director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali in a local newspaper two days ago that some foreigners were monopolising the business sector, having obtained business lots from locals, who leased them to foreigners for quick profit. — Bernama
