Najib satisfied with progress of SSP MRT Line: Liow

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak has expressed satisfaction over the progress of the Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) MRT Line, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
"I am very happy and the Prime Minister is also very happy to see that the entire MRT project is going on very smoothly," he told reporters after accompanying Najib during his visit to the SSP Line's Bandar Malaysia North station site here today.
Najib had earlier kicked off tunnelling works for the SSP Line marked by the launch of the tunnel boring machine (TBM) – the first of 12 that will be used for the project.
Construction work for the SSP Line is on schedule, with 22% having been completed.
Liow said he was confident the infrastructure project which began in September 2016, would complete according to the stipulated time-frame. The line is expected to be fully operational by the second quarter of 2022.
"It's doing very well. I am very happy to see the project going on smoothly. This is a massive job," he added.
Spanning 52.2km, of which 13.5km is underground, the SSP Line will be served by 35 stations – 11 of them underground.
It will run from Sungai Buloh to Putrajaya through Kepong, Batu, Jalan Ipoh, Titiwangsa, KLCC, Tun Razak Exchange, Bandar Malaysia, Sungai Besi, Serdang, UPM and Cyberjaya.
The SSP Line is the second to be built under the Klang Valley MRT Project, the first being the 51km Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line. — Bernama
