Online public consultation opened for law practitioners: Azalina

KUALA LUMPUR: Online public consultation has been opened for law practitioners to express their views on the Focus Group Discussion Report on the Legal Profession Blueprint.
In a statement here today, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said law practitioners could start surfing https://lpaconsultation.com.my to provide inputs and views on the future of the legal profession, including amendments to the Legal Profession Act 1976 (Act 166).
"This public consultation is one of the government's initiatives to get more engagements, especially among law practitioners to provide insights and recommendations on the report," she said.
She said this initiative not only proved the government's openness in implementing any policy changes but it was also a step towards ensuring the legal profession continued to be at the best possible standards.
Azalina also said among the main issues highlighted in the report were pertaining to legal education, the improvisation of legal education in Malaysia and issues related to law practitioners.
"All feedback and suggestions through this public consultation will be collected by the Special Consultative Committee before being tabled in the cabinet," she said.
Azalina was quoted as saying an action plan will be drafted and set up to improve the national legal profession by tightening the qualifications to become a lawyer, advertising their services and determining legal fees that are reasonable. — Bernama
