IPOH: Damages to domestic premises due to the implementation of the Regional Sewage Treatment Plant and Sewer Network project in Kinta district will be borne by the appointed contractor, says Acting Deputy Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri SK Devamany.
However, he said works to repair the damage could only be carried out after the project was fully completed.
"We will ensure the contractor repair the damage as it is covered by insurance and it is also included in the agreement.
"But it will take time if construction is still going on, as ground settlement will occur due to digging works," he told reporters after a Briefing and Coordination of Regional Sewage Treatment Plant and Sewer Network project in Papan here today.
He was commenting on Lahat residents complaint that their houses were damaged due to the implementation of the project.
Commenting further, Devamany said residents facing such problems could lodge their grievances to his ministry.
In this regard, he called on the people to be patient over the inconvenience caused by the implementation of the project.
"We want to create greater awareness and channel more information to the people that major projects would bring about several problems such as traffic flow even though the government is spending billions of ringgit for the comfort of the people.
The RM2 billion project will benefit 1.5 million residents in the Kinta district in three packets including sewer pipe network in Ipoh city centre as well as the construction of a sewerage treatment plant for areas around Papan.
When completed in 2021, the 160km sewerage pipe network is expected to better manage sewerage from domestic premises, industry and commercial sectors. — Bernama
