Ringgit ends lower against US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit extended yesterday's losses to depreciate further against the US dollar today, in tandem with other emerging market currencies, due to external factors, a dealer said.
At 6pm, the local note was quoted at 3.9270/9300 versus the greenback from Wednesday's 3.9150/9190.
The dealer said the recent US Federal Reserve's (Fed) hawkish monetary policy remarks, which bolstered bets that the US interest rate hike would be hiked four times this year, made an impact on emerging Asian currencies, including the ringgit.
The local note, however, was traded mostly higher against a basket of major currencies.
It appreciated against the Singapore dollar to 2.9577/9605 from Wednesday's 2.9583/9624, rose against the British pound to 5.3953/3014 from 5.4383/4462 and increased against the euro to 4.7831/7875 from 4.7837/7898 yesterday.
It depreciated against the yen to 3.6777/6822 from 3.6551/6606 on Wednesday. — Bernama
