Agong receives Honorary Fellowship from Oxford's St Cross College

OXFORD: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, Sultan Muhammad V has been awarded the Honorary Fellowship of the St Cross College of Oxford, United Kingdom.
He received the fellowship during an induction ceremony in St Cross College on Wednesday evening, cementing his place in an international network of 14 Honorary and Domus Fellows of the college.
St Cross College Master, Carole Souter presented a medal and certificate of fellowship to the King, witnessed by the college's vice-chancellor, Professor Louise Richardson and its academic staff.
St Cross College is one of 38 colleges of the prestigious University of Oxford. It is dedicated solely to Graduate Students and Fellows.
Souter in her remarks said the college's honorary fellowships were held by a small and very select group of highly esteemed and eminent individuals.
An honorary fellowship is a highly prestigious award which the university can bestow on an annual basis to distinguished individuals who have a connection with the university, or with Wales, and who have made an outstanding contribution to their chosen field.
It is held for the lifetime of the recipient with perpetual dining rights and celebrated membership of the college.
Sultan Muhammad V was educated at the Oakham School in Rutland until 1989 and pursued his education in Diplomatic Studies at St Cross College in Oxford, as well as Islamic Studies at the Oxford Centre until 1991.
The King later joined a special dinner with other distinguished guests before he went to the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies and planted a tree to mark his visit to the centre. — Bernama
