GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix) has challenged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to initiate action against him for speaking his mind over the spate of investigations and detention of Opposition politicians.
Lim said that he was ready to face action by the authorities such as the MACC.
He stressed that only Opposition leaders were harassed and intimidated by the MACC when there are claims that Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders were also corrupt.
He was responding to a warning issued by MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad to be careful when issuing statements about the course of the commission's investigations.
To this, Lim told a press conference that earlier MACC had stated that it does not plan to investigate politicians because such actions can be used by their rivals, with the 14th general election approaching.
"But now, MACC acts against the Opposition leaders. Whether it is (Datuk Seri) Azmin Ali (Selangor Mentri Besar) or me. MACC is only going after the ikan bilis (small culprits) and not the big fishes (major corrupt parties)."
"Let me say MACC is going after the Opposition's top leaders. So what is going on?
"Anyway, we let the people decide if MACC's investigation has political elements," he said.
