GUA MUSANG: The federal government has allocated assistance totalling RM15 million to be distributed to 30,000 families affected by the flood last year, said National Disaster Management Agency deputy director-general Datuk Muhammad Yusoff Wazir.
Muhammad Yusoff said 10 states were affected by the disaster at the end of last year and early this year, with each family to receive a RM500 assistance.
"Perhaps there is a delay in the aid distribution to the affected victims but at least it can help ease the burden they have to bear due to the destruction of property caused by the flood.
"We are currently distributing the assistance in stages," he told reporters after the Community Level Disaster Risk Management Awareness programme and the Flood Victims' Cash Aid Distribution ceremony at the Civic Centre here today.
Also present were Gua Musang district officer Tuan Zainal Abidin Tuan Yusoff, Gua Musang district police chief Supt Mohd Taufik Maidin and Kelantan Civil Defence Force director Zainuddin Hussin.
A total of 200 flood victims including the Orang Asli received the assistance at today's event. — Bernama
