Najib witnesses MoU exchanges for developments in Terengganu

KUALA NERUS: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak and Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman today witnessed the exchanges of a number of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) of firms involved in development projects in the state, in conjunction with the closing of the 2018 Terengganu Expo 'Molek Doh' at the compound of the Gong Badak Sports Complex, here.
Three firms, namely Terengganu Incorporated Sdn Bhd (state subsidiary), Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) and China Communications Construction (CCC) Sdn Bhd are tasked with developing the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project in the state.
The MoU signatories were Terengganu Group Inc President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Wan Ahmad Rudirman Wan Razak, MRL CEO Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak and CCC Executive Director, Bai Yinzhen.
The strategic partnership of the three firms is aimed at ensuring the smooth implementation of the ECRL project which involves a 230km track through eight stations, and could begin this month.
Meanwhile, the MRL held an MoU exchange with the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) to increase English proficiency among students under the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) programme.
The MoU signatories were ECERDC CEO, Datuk Seri Jebasingam Issace John, and Darwis.
The collaboration is part of efforts to develop human capital that would benefit more than 1,350 students in 49 schools located along the East Coast Rail line this year.
Also at the same event, Najib witnessed the submission of a document and letter of commitment to develop the Terengganu Silica Valley Development Committee in Marang, with potential investors such as Petronas, ECERDC, Melewar Group and Terengganu Industrial Mineral (TIM) Group Resources Sdn Bhd.
The handing-over of the document and letter of commitment involved State Secretary Datuk Seri Nawawi Wan Ismail and Petronas Group Vice-President and Legal Adviser Maliki Kamal M.Yasin, followed by Jebasingam, TIM group chairman, Tengku Temenggung Tengku Baharuddin Sultan Mahmud and Melewar Group Executive Chairman, Tunku Datuk Yaacob Khyra Tunku Tan Sri Abdullah.
Subsequently, Najib and Razif witnessed the handing-over of a letter of commitment by LS Associates (SEA) Sdn Bhd CEO, Maimunah Abu Bakar and Samsung South East Asia Region director Park Ki Chauk to Wan Nawawi to develop Terengganu International Industrial Park in Kuala Berang, Hulu Terengganu. — Bernama
