GEORGE TOWN: Parti Amanah Nasional president Mohamed Sabu (pix) has assured that PKR founder Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will assume the role of prime minister and make necessary changes should the Opposition win in the next election.
Mohamed said that the present arrangement of proposing Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed as an interim prime minister and Dr Wan Azizah as his deputy was just to facilitate Anwar's eventual release from confinement and his assuming of the premiership.
"We will definitely not have the (present PKR president) Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the deputy prime minister. It is crazy to have a husband and wife to lead the country. Now, it is a temporary arrangement to facilitate the eventual emergence of Anwar to take over the mantle of the country's leadership."
He was speaking at a Penang PKR fundraising dinner at the Spice convention hall, where close to 2,500 PKR supporters attended, with the organisers raising close RM1 million to help them campaign for the upcoming 14th General Elections.
At the event, Pakatan Harapan expressed supreme confidence that the Opposition will fare well in the coming general election after unveiling the tagline which reads "If Barisan Nasional (BN) wins, it means they have cheated".
The tagline has been shared with the various civil societies and interest groups that the Opposition has met to drum up support.
It will represent the battle cry of the Opposition in the election.
Mohamed said it would be strange for Malaysians to continue to support BN.
"There are prime examples of a rotting leadership in the country; from various financial public scandals and the country's descent in the Global Corruption Perception Index this year," he said.
"There is no hiding that we have a big problem on our hands – corruption. So much if our voters continue to shun this issue in the elections, we would become strange human beings. There are no words to describe us," Mohamed said when addressing
Earlier, PKR supreme council member Dr Xavier Jayakumar said that Pakatan has to be prepared for 'the occurrence of fraud', claiming that for the first time in the nation's electoral history; some three million voters were listed as early or postal voters for the 14th national election.
"Even medical staffers are now categorised as early voters."
Besides Mohamed, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, who is the Penang Chief Minister, state DAP chairperson Chow Kon Yeow and Dr Wan Azizah spoke at the dinner.
