KOTA BHARU: A curious fisherman who went to inspect why his homemade fish bomb failed to detonate at a river in Kampung Chegar Bedil, Jeli yesterday, was seriously injured when the explosive suddenly went off.
The 3.30pm explosion left Mohd Fadil Abdullah, 27, with a crushed left palm apart from an injured jaw and right wrist.
He is in a coma at the Raja Perempuan Zainal II Hospital here.
Kelantan police chief, Datuk Hasanuddin Hassan said the victim had hurled the home-made bomb into the river but it did not detonate.
"Out of curiosity, he went closer (to inspect the bomb) but the bomb blew up," he told reporters after opening the Kelantan-level Dikir Barat Competition and Open Day in conjunction with the Express Mutiara Silver Jubilee here today.
Also present was Konsortium Ekspres Mutiara (E-Mutiara) executive chairman Che Ibrahim Che Ismail.
Hasanuddin said the victim's family had yet to lodge a police report on the mishap. — Bernama
