Infertile couples must not feel shy to seek treatment

SHAH ALAM: Couples who are childless after some years of marriage are advised not to wait too long in seeking treatment for infertility.
Metro IVF Sdn Bhd (Metro IVF) founder, Dr Tee Swi Peng said based on his experience as a fertility consultant, the main factor for couples to delay seeking treatment was the feeling of shyness on the part of the husbands to come forward to address the problem.
"The women are usually the first to come to the clinic for medical consultation, but the clinic can only give the most accurate advice if both husband and wife are present.
"So, the men should not feel shy because the earlier a couple comes to seek advice and treatment, the chances of them to have children are higher."
Dr Tee said this when met at a celebration of the first birthday of ten IVF (in vitro fertilisation) babies at a shopping complex, here, on Saturday.
At the event, Metro IVF also announced the opening of a women's clinic, Klinik Wanita Mey, at Star Avenue Commercial Centre, Section U5, here.
The clinic, set up in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Mara, offers early fertility treatment and counselling for interested couples before referring them to Metro IVF for further treatment.
A client of Metro IVF, Adam Salleh, 40, said he and his wife sought treatment after seven years of marriage with no children.
"The doctors and staff here are professional and experts in their respective fields. So, my advice to couples with infertility problem is not to be afraid or feel embarrassed to seek treatment. We need to make an effort to solve the problem," said Adam, who now has a 14-month-old son. — Bernama
