Parti Amanah Negara unfazed by small seats allocation

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) is unfazed with the fact that it is allocated the least Parliament seats among Pakatan Harapan (PH) partners in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Its vice-president Husam Musa said what matters was the party's capability in winning the seats it had planned to contest.
In drawing example, Husam said DAP managed to win almost all of the seats it contested in the previous general election, despite being allocated with a lesser share from other opposition parties.
He added there was no point in giving more seats to a party if it could not yield better results in the elections.
"The concept of less or more seats was made by those who wanted to disunite the parties in PH.
"Less or more seats is not a problem (to Amanah). The issue is whether the seats are winnable or not," he told a press conference at Amanah headquarters.
He said this in dismissing notions that Amanah was the weakest party in PH due to its least share of parliament seats among the coalition partners.
Of the 165 seats contested by PH in the peninsula, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia - despite being a newcomer - was allotted the lion' share of 52 seats.
This was followed by PKR with 51 seats, DAP with 35 and Amanah, 27.
Husam also said that Amanah would be leading the PH components in Kelantan to take over the state from PAS — which has been governing it since 1990.
Because of that, Amanah candidates would be fielded in state constituencies that were regarded as PAS' stronghold.
"Amanah will be contesting in seats which PAS had won with an overwhelming majority," he said.
"That has been the concept that we will not be contesting in marginal seats," he added.
