Lack of information on delivery of water blights neighbourhoods

SUBANG: Residents affected by the water cuts say they have not been informed on the schedule of Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd's (Syabas) water tankers servicing their neighbourhoods.
SS15 resident S. Anita said there has been no sign of water tankers in her neighbourhood since Tuesday.
She questioned the absence of the tankers, as based on media reports, Syabas said it would deploy 70 water tankers to the affected neighbourhoods.
To resolve this problem, Anita said that her family had to buy large bottles of mineral water to ensure they have sufficient supply.
Anita said she had called up Syabas to enquire on the water tanker schedule, but said the hotline was always busy.
"Syabas should at least give us some information on when the tankers will be making their rounds so that everyone can be ready with their containers," she said.
Meanwhile, another resident Hau Han Sen, told theSun that his family was worried that their stored supply of water would not last until Sunday.
"The wait for the water tankers can be excruciating and it is hard to tell when the tanker will drop by.
"Even though one tanker did come by this morning, it is hard to tell when they will come again," he said.
Checks by theSun found that there are at least two to three water tanks being placed at different locations around SS15 and the neighbouring areas.
It was announced last Friday that several areas in the Klang Valley will face water disruption from Tuesday to Friday as a result of the shutting down of the SSP3 water treatment plant, due to critical equipment repair works by Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor Holdings Bhd (Splash).
However, due to the burst of the surge vessel system at the treatment plant, there will be delays in the water restoration period for the affected areas.
"Kuala Langat and Hulu Selangor can expect supply to be fully restored by 6am on Saturday while for Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Gombak and Kuala Lumpur it will be 6pm on Sunday," Selangor Infrastructure, Public Amenities, Agriculture Modernisation and Agro-based Industry Permanent Committee chairman Zaidy Abdul Talib said after making a site-visit to the plant on Wednesday.
