KUANTAN: A Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) Technical and Operations manager was killed after she was thrown out of a Mitsubishi Triton four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle belonging to UMP Ecopest Sdn Bhd in an accident at Km 180.1 of the East-Coast Expressway (LPT) yesterday.
Maran district police chief DSP Norzamri Abd Rahman said in the 2.05pm incident, Siti Zubaidah Kamarudin, 39, died at the scene due to severe head injuries.
He said the victim, who was seated in the front passenger seat, was travelling with three others from Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur on official business.
"The accident was believed to have occurred when the 4WD driver had lost control over the vehicle after driving into flowing water on the road following a heavy downpour at that time.
"The vehicle then swerved to the left and spinned several times before knocking onto a Proton Perdana which had stalled on the road shoulder," he told reporters here today.
Norzamri said the 4WD driver, Mohd NurSyahizan Yaacob, 41, and rear passenger, Mohd Raimi Saiffuddin Rohadi, 27, escaped injuries while Sherra Sabtu, 27, suffered from a bruised head.
The 29-year-old Proton Perdana's driver, Ahmad Ikhwan Aad Suhaimi was also uninjured, he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
