Education Ministry to study NUTP's code of ethics in school

PUTRAJAYA: The Education Ministry will study the code of ethics proposed by the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) for parents, guardians and families of students when they go to the school, minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid (pix) said yesterday.
He said the proposed code of ethics was aimed at fostering better ties between teachers and parents.
"I fully support NUTP's proposal and will look into it," he told reporters after receiving the proposed code of ethics from an NUTP delegation led by its president, Kamarozaman Abd Razak at the ministry here yesterday.
He said the ministry did not want a repeat of an incident where a teacher was charged in court and arguments broke out at a school.
When met, Kamarozaman said in the proposed code of ethics, the NUTP included eight issues which should be avoided and 15 to be observed.
Meanwhile in KUALA LUMPUR, Mahdzir urged graduates from the Teachers' Training Institutes to equip themselves with knowledge in all fields, in line with developments in the digital era.
He said teachers of the future should not only master the process of teaching and learning in classrooms but also be knowledgeable in all aspects, especially the technology delivery system so that they were not left behind.
"Today's graduates need to be digital-savvy, they need to think how to face a world that has moved from text books to being paperless," he said at the 2018 National Leadership Convention for Graduate Teachers here yesterday.
Later, speaking to reporters after attending a celebration held by the ministry's Psychology and Counselling Department, he added the ministry would study the establishment of a one-stop training centre to counsel teachers in schools. — Bernama
