IT was a historical moment for Chinese production company Bona Film Group, which opened its first cinema beyond the realms of China. The collaborated effort with Resorts World Genting resulted in a red carpet opening event, introducing the first international Bona Cinemas theatre right here at SkyAvenue at Resorts World Genting.
The opening ceremony kicked off with a captivating lion dance performance, followed by a multicultural traditional dance by Istana Budaya’s Muhibbah dancers.
Guests got to be the first patrons to the spanking new cinema which aired a special screening of Chinese-Hong Kong action film, Operation Red Sea.
Bona Cinemas officially opened its door once the formalities were concluded. The ribbon-cutting ceremony involved Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak; Bona Film Group chairman and general manager of the board Yu Dong; Genting Malaysia chairman and chief executive Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay; VXL Group president Datuk Lim Chee Wah; Genting Malaysia executive director and chief information officer Hui Lim; Finas director general Datuk Fauzi Ayob; Genting Malaysia president and COO Datuk Seri Lee Choong Yan; and Bona Cinemas chairman Allan Wang Yi; as well as Operation Red Sea director Dante Lam, film director Raymond Yip and producer Candy Leung.
“Resorts World Genting is a well-known tourist’s destination in China. It is a world-class integrated resort with so many spectacular entertainment options for people from all walks of life. Talking about just Chinese tourists to Malaysia, approximately half of these visitors have visited Resorts World Genting last year,” Yu Dong said in his speech.
Proud to be part of Resorts World Genting, Yu Dong also shared his hopes, that the opening of the cinema and collaboration with the Genting Group will result in more movies, film stars and entertainment from China to the Malaysian audience.
Bona Cinemas at SkyAvenue currently has four cinema halls in operation. Visitors can expect an additional two – a 48-seat VIP theatre and a 250-seat IMAX theatre – to be opened in the second half of 2018. For more information, visit www.rwgenting.com
