Fomer Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Junid dies

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Kedah menteri besar Tan Sri Sanusi Junid died early today at his residence in Pantai Dalam here. He was 74.
Sanusi leaves behind wife Puan Sri Nila Inangda Manyam Keumala and seven children – four daughters and three sons.
His former press secretary, Aziman Hasan, confirmed the death when contacted by Bernama and said Sanusi died before dawn.
Sanusi's son Akhramsyah said his father died at about 6am as he was about to join his mother for the morning prayers.
"This morning, my father had performed the ablution and was waiting to go for prayers when he suddenly fell unconscious," he said when met the residence.
"Yesterday, my father went for a medical checkup and everything was fine. In fact, he even attended the launch of the Pakatan Harapan manifesto last night without showing any sign of health problems," he said.
Sanusi was laid to rest at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery at 3pm after prayers were held at the Saidina Umar Al Khattab Mosque in Damansara.
About 200 family members and friends attended the burial ceremony. Also present were Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharom and the Advisor to the Government on Social and Cultural Matters Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim.
Sanusi had been the national and rural development minister in 1981 and agriculture minister in 1986 prior to being appointed as the Kedah menteri besar to serve from 1996 to 1999. — Bernama
