Nurul Izzah Ismail maybe reaches settlement over defamation suit.

KUALA LUMPUR: The defamation suit filed by PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar against Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on implying she was traitor maybe settled in the High Court here.
Counsel R. Sivarasa who is representing Nurul Izzah told reporters of the development after a meeting with Judicial Commissioner Datuk Faizah Jamaludin in her chambers today in the presence of federal senior counsel Normastura Ayub and Zureen Elina Mohd Dom who is representing Ismail Sabri and another defendant, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, the former Inspector-General of Police.
Sivarasa said today had been set aside to hear the oral arguments of both sides, but it was postponed after the plaintiff was informed that the second defendant (Ismail Sabri) had expressed interest to settle the case with his client.
The council said the court had fixed March 19 to hear the development on the settlement of the case and to hear arguments from both sides.
Normastura said discussions on the settlement of the case only involved the minister while the case against the first defendant (Khalid) would still proceed.
The trial of the suit was completed after Ismail Sabri, the second defendant gave his statements in the trial which began on Aug 11 last year.
Nurul Izzah who also Lembah Klang MP filed her suit on Nov 26, 2015, said the former IGP had on Nov 22, 2015, uttered slanderous words against her during a press conference at Bukit Aman police headquarters.
She also said Ismail Sabri had also issued a libellous media statement against her on the same day (Nov 22, 2015) during an event in Bera, Pahang.
In her statement of claim filed in November 2015, Nurul Izzah said Khalid's words meant that she was traitor and mastermind behind the Sulu intrusion after her photograph with Jacel Kiram – daughter of Jamalulail Kiram, who was said to have led the intrusion into Sabah in 2013 was published. — Bernama
