Zahid offers essential goods at giveaway prices in Bagan Datuk

BAGAN DATUK: The Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today conducted a sales at giveaway prices in a Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat (People's Sales) at the compound of Bagan Datuk District and Land Office in Rungkup this morning.
A cheap sale pack of one kilogramme of fresh beef, one tray of eggs, a bag of rice, a sack of onions with several cans of milk and sardine, was offered at only RM50.
He later surprised everyone at the sales when he lowered the prices by another 70% when the prices of goods were already slashed by 50% by the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
The event saw 10 stalls offering cheap Q'Fish brand frozen fish, chicken, cooking oil, flour, sugar, rice, vegetables and fruits from about 8am.
Ahmad Zahid who arrived at about 10am also offered rice in 10kg bag at only RM10 compared to RM26 in the market, while a kg of fresh beef costs RM10 compared to the usual price of RM33 and chickens were sold at RM5 each compared to RM6 per kg while branded chocolate drink were priced RM10 a carton compared to RM16 at supermarkets and with all the goods offered at such ridiculously low prices, it was no surprise that the items were sold out by 11am.
The Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat programme was held for the first time in Bagan Datuk with the cooperation of various government agencies such as Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM), Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) as well as the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK).
Meanwhile, a visitor, Mohd Umzarul Faiz Umar, 40, who came with his wife Hamimah Hamid, 41, said they were excited with the cheap sales as they had only brought RM50 to buy some daily necessities.
"I have never bought things at such cheap prices. Thanks to the government for understanding the feelings of the people," he said.
Another visitor, Rokiah Abdullah, 38, said she came as early as 8am for the programme and bought five cartons of Milo packet drinks at RM50.
"When the DPM announced the sales for Milo, I wasted no time to grab some for my family," she said. — Bernama
