ALOR GAJAH: The Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry (KeTTHA) will be focusing on treated effluent from sewage treatment plant as a source of water to reduce the pressure on existing sources of water.
KeTTHA secretary-general, Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang said the ministry was targeting to reuse one-third of the treated effluent by 2030.
"We hope to achieve 25% of reduction in non-revenue water by 2020 and 15% by 2030.
"Therefore, giving greater awareness and knowledge on green technology to the people is important to overcome the destruction of the environment and natural resources apart from improving the economy of the country," he said at a National Transformation Dialogue (TN50) and the 2017-2030 Green Technology Master Plan (GTMP) here today.
The programme held at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka, Durian Tunggal here is aimed at explaining the GTMP as well as the roles of the government and the people in creating a culture of a green lifestyle.
More than 1,000 participants comprising higher education institution students and civil servants attended the dialogue which among others discuss the methods of reducing carbon emission as well as adopting green technology to overcome issues such as air pollution, traffic congestion and transportation.
In this regard, Zaini said the TN50 and GTMP programmes which had been implemented at eight locations nationwide including Melaka, were well-received by various sectors of the community including the younger generation.
"We could see they understand the importance of protecting the environment but we want more than that including changing to a more positive lifestyle as well as taking on the responsibility to ensure our natural treasures could be enjoyed by the future generations. — Bernama
