PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional (BN) should not underestimate the promises proposed by Pakatan Harapan (PH) in its 14th General Election (GE14) manifesto, said Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Responding to criticism by various government leaders – including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, Muhyiddin said the opposition had consulted with experts when drafting its manifesto.
Expressing confidence over the 138-page document, Muhyiddin described the offer made by PH to the rakyat as "something that they can't refuse".
"They can comment whatever they want. They can say that the manifesto was recycled or illogical (to be implemented). However, they should not underestimate it," he said.
"Do they consider us as stupid just because we are the opposition? Do they think we do not have the expertise or scholars to conduct the analysis?
"What is important is the acceptance of the rakyat ... so far most of them are happy with its content," he told a press conference at PPBM headquarters.
The manifesto, launched on Thursday night, listed 10 promises to be implemented within the first 100 days of PH's governance, including abolishing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and introducing a targeted petrol subsidy.
PPBM policy and strategy bureau chairman Datuk Dr Rais Hussin challenged BN to a debate over their respective manifestos. Holding such debates would give an opportunity for the opposition to answer criticisms by BN politicians of the recently released PH party platform.
"We want to hold a debate with BN's manifesto writer after they have released their own version," he said.
"If they are brave, they should accept the challenge," Rais added.
