KUALA LUMPUR: Police are looking for a 56-year-old man after a four-year-old child that he allegedly abused was left unconscious in Ampang last month.
Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Hamzah Alias said the drama unfolded when the child's mother, an Indonesian in her 40s who works as a housekeeper, had earlier allowed the suspect, who is a friend, to bring the child back to his home in Pandan Perdana here on the pretext of babysitting her on Feb 18.
"However, when the mother made a video call to the suspect on the same day to speak to her child, she noticed the child had bruise marks on her face.
"Three days later on Feb 21, when the victim's mother went to the suspect's house to pick her up, she noticed her daughter's cheeks and ears were bruised," he said.
Hamzah said the mother then received a call from the suspect on Sunday, informing that her child had been admitted to Hospital Ampang before he disappeared.
According to the medical staff in Ampang Hospital, the child was brought to the hospital at around 6.30pm on Sunday by two men who claimed they were friends of the mother.
"The duo told the medical staff in the hospital that the victim had suffered an injury in the bathroom of their house. The girl was also unconscious at the time.
"She was admitted to the hospital for treatment and the medical staff subsequently lodged a police report on the same day," added Hamzah.
Initial investigations revealed the child suffered from severe injuries including internal bleeding in her head.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for child abuse.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, a Myanmar woman was found murdered at her home in Pandan Indah here on Monday.
In the 2.50pm incident, Hamzah said the woman in her 40s was found lying on her bed with blood stains and bruises on her face and arms.
The victim was discovered by her friend, who is also a Myanmar national.
The deceased worked as an assistant at a company which conducted health screenings for foreign workers.
A 26-year-old foreigner has been detained to facilitate investigations.
