GEORGE TOWN: An Indonesian woman was found dead in a closet on Tuesday at around 10pm in a two-room flat in Paya Terubong.
Northeast district police chief ACP Anuar Omar said the corpse was found by the two Nepalese occupants of the flat.
The deceased was the girlfriend of the suspect who also lived in the same flat as the two Nepalese men.
The corpse was found by the suspect's housemates after they noticed a foul stench coming from the suspect's closet beside their room.
The housemates last saw the suspect on March 9.
Anuar said police believe that jealousy could be a likely motive for the murder.
The two Nepalese housemates of the suspect were also detained for further investigation.
Penang Hospital Pathology and Forensic expert Dr Navin Chandra was present at the crime scene.
He said there were no signs of injury on the victim's body and a postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
