PUTRAJAYA: Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot hinted today that this year's Workers' Day national celebration may be held after the 14th General Election.
"I cannot say for sure that the Workers' Day celebration will be held on May 1 … it may be held after 'a major celebration'," he said, apparently referring to GE14, and drawing applause and laughter from the audience at the ministry's presentation of excellent service awards here.
The theme of the 2018 Workers' Day – Skillfull Workers Pioneers of National Excellence – was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak on Feb 24.
A total of 642 people received excellent service awards at the event, which was also attended by Deputy Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Muttalib and the ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Mohd Ghazali Abas.
Also in his speech, Riot urged the employees of the ministry to improve their skills and competence in delivering services in line with the government aspiration to make 2018 a spectacular year of success for Malaysia.
He said all employees should train themselves to be able to multi-task, have multi-skills and be multi-talented. — Bernama
