PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia welcomes the agreement between South Korea and North Korea to hold the third Inter-Korean Summit which is scheduled for late April, Wisma Putra said today.
"Malaysia has long advocated that differences between the two Koreas must be resolved through peaceful negotiations and dialogues," it said in a statement.
South Korean National Security Office chief Chung Eui-Yong announced that the South and the North had agreed to hold the summit at the Peace House at the Panmunjom truce village in late April after his delegation met with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Pyongyang on March 6.
Wisma Putra said the Malaysian government also welcomed the agreement to hold the North Korea-United States Summit by May this year.
It said Malaysia believed that it would be a significant step towards reducing tensions between North Korea and the United States and towards efforts for the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.
"The Government of Malaysia remains committed to playing its role together with all partners and like-minded countries in realising the common objective of the denuclearisation and establishment of peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula," Wisma Putra said. — Bernama
