PADANG BESAR: Perlis police are investigating a report alleging that a General Operations Force (GOF) personnel misused his firearm in a raid at Jalan Gua Sami, Kampung Kubang Tiga near here on Tuesday.
State police chief Datuk Azisman Alias said when contacted that a report was lodged on the incident and further investigations were being conducted as the case allegedly involved border GOF personnel.
"It could have been a misunderstanding," he said, declining to elaborate.
A resident identified only as Bun, 44, related that a man came to his house around 5pm yesterday with two others claiming to be police personnel and said they had received a report about ketum being kept there.
Because the men were wearing ordinary attire despite being armed, Bun said he and his friends became fearful and started running helter-skelter out of the house.
At this point, the GOF personnel started firing three shots into the air, he recalled.
He said residents who heard the shots rushed to his house and surrounded the three men.
"Half an hour later, police from Padang Besar District Police Headquarters arrived and acknowledged that the trio were indeed GOF personnel," he told reporters. — Bernama
