Surau hall turns into Syariah court to hear case on endowment land

KAJANG: A hall of a surau in Kampung Batu 13 here was converted into a Syariah High Court room to hear a case involving endowment land.
Selangor Syarie Chief Judge Mohammad Adib Husain said a mobile court kit (MCK) was brought to the Surau Ibtidaiyah, Kampung Batu 13, Jalan Cheras, Kajang, to enable the case to be heard there due to the ailing condition of the witnesses, who are senior citizens.
"This is the first time we are having a hearing in a surau. The arrangement is not like in a court room. What is important is to not cause inconvenience to those who cannot go to the court because of their condition, either due to health on they are disabled," he said when met at the surau.
Today's hearing was on an application by the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) to verify the endowment site of the Surau Ibtidaiyah following a claim on the land by 10 individuals who are the next-of kin of the land owner.
The two witnesses who testified today were Anuar Misbah Husin, 76, and Zainuddin Abd Rahim, 84.
Mais was represented by its Syariah officer Fahimi Mahamad Madani , while the defendants were represented by lawyer Sa'adiah Din. — Bernama
