Uber driver's windscreen vandalised

GEORGE TOWN: A female Uber driver suffered a rude shock when her windscreen was smashed by a motorcyclist with a rock here on March 8.
The incident happened around 7.40am along Jalan Ria after the 45-year-old Uber driver had dropped off her passenger at the Maybank Komtar area.
A male motorcyclist who was carrying a female passenger repeatedly honked at the victim when she was on Jalan Penang.
When she re-entered Jalan Ria, the motorcyclist rode to the driver's side of the car and broke her side mirror with his helmet.
As she stopped her car at the traffic light of the intersection of Jalan Ria to Jalan Magazine, the motorcyclist rode around to the front of her car and threw a rock at her windscreen.
"I thought it's just a careless knock but I did not imagine that the motorcyclist will hurl a stone at my windscreen. I was driving alone at that time and the incident happened so quickly that I did not manage to get a good look at both the suspects," the shocked victim said.
She added that she did not offend the motorcyclist on the road prior to Jalan Penang and had no clue as to why he acted in that way.
She lodged a police report at the Northeast district police headquarters immediately after the incident and her statement was recorded.
Northeast district police chief ACP Anuar Omar said the police visited the crime scene and found an eyewitness who saw the incident but failed to take any recording of it.
He said CCTV in the area showed that the suspects were a man and woman riding on a black Honda EX-5 motorcycle but the registration number could not be identified clearly.
"The video recording of the Uber driver has been sent to the police forensics department to assist in the investigation," he said in a statement.
"We are currently investigating the case and will make sure to serve justice to the perpetrators who committed such vandalism," he commented.
He urged all the road users to be courteous, rational and do not do anything rash.
