E-hailing gives taxi drivers opportunity to generate higher income

KUALA LUMPUR: Taxi drivers using e-hailing mobile application have the edge in being chosen by customers, thus helping them generate more income.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Nancy Shukri said the government has been actively disseminating information on e-hailing services and its advantages to taxi drivers nationwide.
"We want them to switch to e-hailing services so that they will be one of the customer's options for a taxi ride.
"This e-hailing application not only involves Uber and Grab as there are 22 other companies in the country which also use e-hailing application that offers the opportunity to existing taxi drivers to serve their customers," she replied to a supplementary question from Datuk Jumat Idris (BN-Sepanggar) during the question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today.
She said taxi drivers who used the application would have the option of getting customers, either by using the application or the usual method of fetching passengers by the road-shoulder.
In her reply to the original question from Jumat on the status of Uber operators in Sabah, Nancy said currently, there were 4,000 active Uber drivers in the state, catering to 150,000 passengers from 69 countries, involving the Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan areas. — Bernama
