KUALA LUMPUR: The promotion of Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd was stalled momentarily during the police internal investigation over the RM1mil that was banked into his Australian bank account by third parties which was allegedly used to fund his children's education.
In saying this, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun also denied rumours claiming that Wan Ahmad Najmuddin is already on leave pending an ongoing probe by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) onto the matter.
"The public and media should also be fair to the CID director. He was investigated by the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) in 2016.
"At the time of investigation, Wan Ahmad Najmuddin's promotion to Commissioner of Police (CP) was stalled or delayed momentarily. His matter was investigated thoroughly, and he was cleared of any wrongdoing in the matter later," he told reporters after attending a rank pinning ceremony at the Bukit Aman police headquarters here today.
Mohamad Fuzi also revealed that the director has been cleared of any criminal offences relating to the money seized from his bank account in Australia.
He said he was informed of this development by his counterpart in Australia.
"Their investigations showed there was no criminal element in Wan Ahmad Najmuddin's case. Just maybe the problem is related to the limit of the deposits or through the third party," said Fuzi.
Meanwhile on another matter, police have sent the Investigation Paper (IP) on allegation made by entrepreneur Kogee Sinniah, against police mistreatment and harassment by three road bullies to the Attorney-General's Chamber for the next course of action.
Fuzi said the trio who were arrested two days ago, have been released on bail.
Police on Tuesday arrested three youths in their 20's to facilitate investigation into the case which has been classified under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
Police also investigated Kogee's allegation that the police turned a blind eye on her predicament.
On Monday, Kogee was driving in Alam Damai with her 13-year-old son when three youths in another car allegedly trailed and harassed her after she swerved her car into their path.
She drove to the Alam Damai police station to seek help but was disallowed entry by a police personnel.
She was eventually allowed in after calling 999.
Later, Kogee posted two videos on Facebook detailing her experience.
