KLANG: Six Klang Municipal Council (MPK) enforcement officers were remanded for seven days until Wednesday to assist investigations into a case of soliciting and receiving a RM1,000 bribe from a non-licensed cyber cafe entrepreneur here, last October.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Nik Nur Amalina Mat Zaidan at 11.15am today, after allowing the application submitted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The case is being investigated under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009.
All the suspects arrived at the court at 10.30am, clad in orange-coloured MACC lock-up attire, and were sent to the Putrajaya MACC lock-up after the proceedings ended.
Yesterday, media reports stated that seven MPK enforcement officers aged 31 to 42 were detained at the Klang branch of the MACC office at 1.45pm, before one of them was released on bail after they had their statements recorded.
According to a source from MACC, on Oct 21 last year, the MPK enforcement officers had done a licence check at the cybercafe, and found that it did not have an entertainment licence.
The officers, however, allegedly requested and took RM1,000 from the cyber cafe operator as an inducement not to impose any legal action on the premises, said the source. — Bernama
