Vehicles destroyed in Bayan Lepas fire

GEORGE TOWN: A total of 18 old motorcycles and a car were destroyed in a fire at the carpark of Pusat Bayan in Bayan Lepas yesterday night.
Southwest district police chief Supt A.A. Anbalagan said authorities were alerted by a member of the public who called 999 to inform about the incident.
"We are still ascertaining the cause and also waiting for the report from the Fire & Rescue Department," he said in a statement to the media today.
However no injuries were reported in the incident.
Meanwhile a state Fire & Rescue Department spokesman said the department received a distress call at 8.10pm and arrived at the scene 15 minutes later.
He said a total of four fire engines from the Jalan Perak and Balik Pulau stations were dispatched to the scene.
He said the fire was brought under control at 9.40pm.
"The Fire Investigation officer (FIO) is investigating the cause of the fire and losses incurred from the incident," he said.
