Police bust 'Wan Tentera' gang involved in house break-ins

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The police have busted the "Wan Tentera" gang involved in break-ins after arresting three men in two raids at Bukit Mertajam here, yesterday and Friday.
Seberang Prai Centre district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid at 4pm on Friday, the police raided a house in Taman Sri Janggus, Alma, here and detained a 27-year-old former military personnel.
"Based on investigations, the police raided a house at Taman Alma Jaya at 5.45am yesterday and arrested two men, aged 20 and 29, who were friends of the man arrested on Friday.
"The three were believed to be involved in more than 10 house break-ins in Bukit Mertajam since the beginning of the year, and the police also seized various items from them," he said here, today.
Among the items seized were electrical goods, mobile phones and various branded watches as well as house break-in tools.
Nik Ros Azhan said the suspects who had multiple criminal and drug records were remanded for five days to assist with investigations.
Meanwhile, in another development, the police arrested two boys, aged 16 and 17, believed to be involved in motorcycle theft in front of a karaoke centre in Bandar Perda, here, at about 1.30am today.
"They were found riding on a Honda Ex-5 motorcycle in a suspicious manner, and an inspection found that the vehicle had been reported missing in Seberang Jaya recently," he said.
He said following their arrest, the police raided a store in Bukit Mertajam and seized various motorcycle parts believed to have been cannibalised from motorcycles stolen by the two school drop-outs.
According to Nik Ros Azhan, the two were believed to have been involved in the activity since last year, and were remanded to assist with investigations. — Bernama
