GEORGE TOWN: Penang will continue to work on delivering affordable homes to Penangites, said state executive councillor for housing, town and country planning Jagdeep Singh Deo.
He said since 2008 some 75,000 low cost and low medium cost units, as well as affordable housing units have either been completed, are in the process of being built or have obtained approval from the state government.
"I know it has not been easy, but we have delivered what we had promised," he said during his speech at the ground breaking ceremony of Hunza Properties' first affordable housing development, TreeO, at Sungai Ara today.
Jagdeep also congratulated Hunza for assisting the state government in building quality housing units for Penangites.
Located next to Taman Sungai Ara, Tree0 will be built on 9.69 acres of land which was bought by Hunza a few years ago and will comprise of three towers offering a total of 1,240 affordable units.
Hunza Group Managing Director Datuk Khir Siang Gin in his speech said the company was actually allowed to build a total of 1,390 units, but chose to build only 1,240 units to make it a lower density establishment.
