Security guard arrested for drug possession during traffic operation

KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic police manning a road block were caught off guard when a motorist walked up to them and admitted that he was a drug user during a traffic operation here on Sunday.
The 60-year-old man, clad in his security uniform, had apparently slacked off while on duty in order to purchase drugs somewhere in the city, when he was arrested at an integrated traffic operation near Dataran Merdeka.
The man approached the road block despite having drugs on him and admitted that he had been arrested on four occasions before this for similar offences.
City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief, ACP Zulkefly Yahya, said the operation, which began on Friday, involved 221 policemen from Bukit Aman, Dang Wangi and the city police headquarters.
He said the man had tested positive for heroin and was carrying a stash of heroin with himwhen he was arrested.
"Since Friday, we issued more then 800 summonses for various offences. Most offences were for fancy number plates (145 summonses), number plate not to specifications (133), not affixing number plates (105), not having a valid drivers license (103), and expired road tax (93)," he told reporters, here today.
Zulkefly added that the three-day traffic operation was jointly conducted by the Federal and City Traffic Department, Dang Wangi's Narcotics and Serious Crime Division and the Road Transport Department.
The operation which ended at midnight saw more than a thousand motorists screened and checked.
