KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri confirmed that the amendments to the Land Public Transport Act 2010 will be gazetted in the second quarter of this year.
Nancy explained that the amendments could not be gazetted any earlier because there is still some fine-tuning needed for details in the amendments.
"This fine-tuning is needed to ensure there will be a level playing field for all the stakeholders - taxi and e-hailing drivers.
"Some of the fine-tuning done includes a flat fare system for both drivers, when the vehicle should be sent for Puspakom inspection, first-party insurance as well as power sharing with the Road Transport Department," she said after handing out individual permits to some 300 taxi drivers.
On whether the impending general election will further delay the gazetting of the amendments, she stressed that the general election plays no role in this.
"Regardless of when the election is held, the amendments will still be gazetted in the second quarter of this year," she said.
Nancy, however, declined to disclose when the amendments would be gazetted in the second quarter.
The amendments to the Land Public Transport Act 2010 and the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board 1987 was approved in Parliament last July.
The amendments would grant the Land Public Transport Commission the authority to regulate the e-hailing industry.
