Cuepacs denies retirement age for civil servants extended

KUALA TERENGGANU: Cuepacs today pointed out that the issue on the retirement age for civil servants being extended to 62 years was an old one and was deliberately being viraled.
Its president Datuk Azih Muda said the claim was being made by an irresponsible group whereas there had been no latest statement made and it had been manipulated to create anger, especially among the younger group.
"The propaganda was being used to instigate the younger group against the government and Cuepacs and in fact, we ourselves are angry ... this is like pitting one against another and it is a very irresponsible act," he said when approached by reporters at a special program on National Transformation 2050 (TN 50) at Wisma Darul Iman, here.
According to Azih, such a statement was issued in 2015 and had been resolved in 2016, involving retirement at the age of 62 for certain departments such as the Judiciary, and professionals such as directors and expert services.
Elsewhere, on the suggestion by Pakatan Harapan vice-president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir yesterday to expel civil servants who are not with the opposition if they succeed in taking over the government, he said this was unfair.
"Civil servants should not be dragged into the political arena because it is not fair to them, and as civil servants, they should give their undivided loyalty to the ruling government," he said.
Meanwhile at the same event, the Director-General of the Public Service Department, Tan Sri Zainal Rahim Seman said he was confident that the civil servants were capable of making a smart decision in choosing the leaders in the 14th General Election. — Bernama
