GEORGE TOWN: The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) is expecting a sales target of RM20 million at the Penang Matta Fair to be held at Straits Quay Convention Centre from March 30 to April 1.
Its immediate past president Datuk Hamzah Rahmat said looking at the success of the recent Matta Fair in Kuala Lumpur, he is confident the event in Penang can be as successful.
"I am confident Penang will be no different as it will be the second biggest destination after Kuala Lumpur", he said during a press conference on board the Super Star Libra cruise ship.
Hamzah said this year Matta being realistic expects a higher turnout of visitors of about 20,000 despite the public perception of the sluggish economy in this country.
Last week's Matta Fair in Kuala Lumpur attracted over 106,000 visitors between March 16 and 18, with a total sales value of RM210 million.
It was an improvement over the previous September 2017 fair, which recorded RM205 million in sales and had a total of 103,880 visitors.
Hamzah pointed out that during this year's Penang Matta Fair, lucky visitors will be offered a variety of special prizes including travel packages and flight tickets by several airlines.
